Blockchain and the Future of Copyright Protection

Abstract

This study deals with some of the problems raised by blockchain technology in the domain of copyright, especially its effective use of literary rights against it, and to prevent its distortion, as well as with regard to the author's use of his right to withdraw his work.
The study also presented the blockchain as a fair digital platform through which to control the methods of paying the authors' fees and the difficulties encountered in implementing the application of the smart contract system within the scope of the exploitation of intellectual property rights. The study also dealt with the future of collective management of copyright under this technology.
The study recommended the legislative adoption of this technology within the scope of intellectual property laws to achieve compatibility between its nature and copyright protection rules. An end to the legislative vacuum in the face of technologies that have become the basis for electronic transactions of all their diversity.
It also recommended that entities of collective management of copyright and related rights benefit from the advantages of this technology in performing their role in a manner that guarantees protection, management and distribution of rights holders' rights in a more fair and transparent manner, and in a manner that advances the digital publishing industry in general.
